Breadwinner Take Top Prizes at Animation Is Film Festival

“The Breadwinner” has been selected as the grand prize winner at the inaugural Animation Is Film Festival. Peter Debruge said “The Breadwinner is not just an incredibly important film, but one that reminds us of the power of animation to communicate serious issues in the world.

The Breadwinner is an upcoming 2017 Canadian-Irish-Luxembourgian animated drama film by Cartoon Saloon directed by Nora Twomey and executive produced by Mimi Polk Gitlin, and Angelina Jolie. Based on the best-selling novel by Deborah Ellis, the film is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017.

The film tells the story of a young girl who disguises herself as a boy to help feed her family during Taliban rule in Afghanistan. After her father Nurullah is unjustly arrested, Parvana, a girl in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, must dress as a boy so she can work to support her mother Fattema and her sister Soraya.
